Welcome to the Frangipani website, the home of our 100% British Worsted 5-ply Guernsey Wool. My name is Jan and my husband is Russ and we have been supplying knitters with our beautiful wool for almost 30 years and have built up the colour range to 30 colours. This is the largest choice of colours in Guernsey 5-ply Wool available anywhere (unless you know differently!) . For years traditional knitting of ganseys, Guernseys, Cornish Knit-Frocks and all fisherman's sweaters has been part of British history. We proudly continue having this special 5-ply wool spun and dyed in Yorkshire in the mills that have for generations been supplying the very best of British yarns.
Our service is personal and quick but not as quick as before. Covid has had an impact on the turnaround of orders so instead of same day we aim to despatch within 3 days.
Click on the WOOL COLOURS button to see the amazing range of THIRTY colours. Send for a free colour card - the colours may not be accurate on your monitor. I supply my wool on 500 & 250g cones for two very good reasons, one is that I am able to offer the wool cheaper as it is more expensive to have the wool balled and the other is that, if you want to knit your gansey 'in the round' then you will not have joins every 100g so your gansey will not have weak points.
Because we specialise in supplying only Guernsey 5-ply wool, we can offer traditional colours and others a little bit different like Herring Girl's Pink. This is a surprisingly feminine pink (baby pink almost) which will probably not show true to colour on a web browser - ask for a sample! This colour was found in Anstruther museum in Scotland and proves that the girls that followed the fleet, gutted the fish and knitted the fishermen's ganseys, also knitted their own, more feminine versions of those ganseys. Evidence has been found for pink, pale green and raspberry so far - such an exciting new discovery.
